What I’d give to be a metalbender
Based on the fictional series: Avatar, The Last Airbender
There’s spoilers! Mostly from the comics
Beifong
Metalbending
Academy
Toph, who invented metalbending, goes on to estabish The Beifong Metalbending Academy, an instructional facility shortly after the Hundred Year War.
I wanted to imagine myself as a designer working with Toph to brand her academy. Toph is fiercely independent, sarcastic, direct, stubborn, and confrontational. She is also very adventurous and tomboyish.
The brand, like her, is earthy and bold. The copy used are all quotes she has said in the comics and the type style is big, loud and in your face but has variation and uniqueness to it.
The logo is a combo of her family symbol of the flying boar and earthbending and earth-kingdom symbols. Metalbending itself doesn’t have a symbol in the existing lore.
The colors are inspired by her character colors and the colors of the earth kingdom.
When people earth bend or metal bend, they show how the bender listens to the vibrations and bend that. The seismic sense is used as a pattern in the design.
Toph calls her students Lily Livers. I like to think she does it endearingly so for the brand, it is used as a collective nickname to address students.
While teaching her first students, Toph had them remotely metalbend small coins rather than manipulate the metal via direct contact.
